Cynthia is a registered nurse with twenty-two years of experience. She has an Associate of Science in Nursing degree from Kansas Newman College in Wichita, KS, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS, is a graduate of Elite School of Surgical First Assisting in Topeka, KS, and is certified in the OR by the Competency and Credentialing Institute. She is a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses, and the Association of Professionals in Infection Control. Cynthia has also provided nursing care on eight short-term mission trips in Alaska, St Martin, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Thailand and Malawi, Africa.
Two years after accepting the position of OR Manager for the Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery Center, in Wichita, KS, a center that specializes in breast reconstruction, Cynthia was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent bilateral mastectomies with tissue expander reconstruction. A short article about this experience was published in the April 5, 2010 edition of Nursing Spectrum. The article led the Producers of Second Opinion to invite her to give points of view from both the patient and health care provider roles on the breast reconstruction episode.
