Vickie L. Dowling, Psy.D., CGP is a clinical psychologist (health psychology specialty) and certified group psychotherapist in San Diego, California. Having personally struggled with debilitating psoriasis from an early age, Dr. Dowling pursued a career in clinical psychology to help educate, provide compassion and instill hope in individuals whose suffering from various health conditions includes isolation, anxiety, and depression. Because of her experience and expertise, she has had many rewarding opportunities to participate on panels and be interviewed for various publications. Dr. Dowling completed her doctoral dissertation at the California School of Professional Psychology (A Coping Skills Short-Term Psychotherapy Group for Psoriasis Patients: Understanding and Coping with the Psychological and Physical Effects of Psoriasis), and wrote an article for the Dermatology Nurses' Association (2010). She has been an active volunteer and patient advocate for the National Psoriasis Foundation (www.psoriasis.org) for over 20 years, hoping to be a positive role model for others. Dr. Dowling's efforts to manage her own health better demonstrate evidence that being proactive for one's healthcare can significantly improve quality of life. Dr. Dowling received the Psychiatric Centers at San Diego Patient Satisfaction Award for Excellence in Quality Care, 2010, an award given annually to one psychologist, psychiatrist, nurse practitioner, and marriage family therapist.
