As a 50-year-old mother of two young women in their twenties, it is important for me to be the best role model I can be.  Growing up I never had a weight problem.   In my mid-20’s I was treated with steroids after an illness and began to gain weight.   At 35 I was in a severe car accident which left me unable to exercise, with being sedentary I began to gain more weight.   In order to be able to enjoy life to its fullest I knew I had to do something as I have a family history of obesity as well as a myriad of issues associated with it.   In 2016 I made the decision to have gastric sleeve surgery and never once regretted the decision to do so.

I believe that one should always strive to be your best self and in doing that I feel self-help books, eating well, and exercising are key.  I feel that everyone has a story to tell, and telling that story just may help others going through the same thing.  In telling my story my hope reduce the stigma of weight loss surgery.    It is NOT “the easy way out”, but merely a tool in the fight against obesity.
