Shelly Pollard, M.B.A.

Shelly Pollard works in the Office of Communications and Public Liaison at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) as the outreach coordinator and the NIMHD Insights blog editor. As the outreach coordinator, she helps strengthen NIMHD’s engagement with two of its major programs: Brother, You’re on My Mind and Fuel Up to Play 60. She is also developing a framework to expand the Institute’s outreach activities. As blog editor, Ms. Pollard works with program staff and grantees to raise national awareness of the prevalence and impact of health disparities and efforts to help reduce and eliminate those disparities.

Before joining NIMHD, Ms. Pollard worked in the Office of Communications at the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), where she helped communicate the importance of biomedical research to NIGMS stakeholders by managing a scientific blog for the research community and science education activities for students. She also worked in the Office of Communications at the National Center for Research Resources and in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director’s Office of Communications and Public Liaison (OCPL), where she served as coordinator of the NIH Advisory Committee to the Director and worked with the Director’s Council of Public Representatives, which was instrumental in supporting NIH’s Public Trust Initiative.

Ms. Pollard holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science, Consumer Economics from the University of Maryland.
